Holguin has decided to start training nursing personnel on respectful maternal and neonatal care based on the experiences and good results for the health of the family of the respectful labor and birth project that has been developed for about a year in pilot provinces such as Pinar del Rio and Sancti Spiritus.
According to Loida Cortés de Quero, First Degree Specialist in Maternal and Child Nursing, Master in Comprehensive Care for Women and coordinator of this project in the territory: “The term “respectful childbirth” or “humanized childbirth” is a modality of childbirth care, characterized by respect for the rights of parents and children at the time of birth.
So that health professionals involved in this process have more knowledge about what the project consists of, which is why a provincial workshop took place this October 31 at Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja children hospital, where the project of respectful childbirth and childbirth was presented.
Among the main objectives of this action of improvement is to make known what it consists of and the importance of applying it in our province and in the country, which responds to an indication of the Ministry of Public Health.
Nursing professionals from the 14 municipalities of the province, from the 10 polyclinics of the provincial capital city, from the Maternal Home “8 de Marzo” and from the General Teaching Hospital Vladimir Ilich Lenin, who were in charge of organizing the training to all nursing professionals in the province working in obstetric services, for its subsequent implementation in the different health areas, participating in the workshop.
At present, respectful maternal and neonatal care is being advocated, where, in addition to health institutions, families play a key role.
