Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca exchanges with producers of Mayarí

During his visit to the province of Holguín, Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, met with agricultural producers and authorities of the municipality of Mayarí.

The Cuban leader arrived in the area of Guaro 1, in the municipality of Mayarí, to exchanged with peasants, who expressed their concerns about basic needs that do not allow them to move forward in their fundamental activity: the production of food for the people, and warned about the challenges faced by local producers.

Some of the issues that were addressed were the lack of resources and technology, the need to have the hydraulic infrastructure that will allow them to bring water to their properties, which will benefit 95 producers, and the importance of having financing and technical support to improve productivity and quality of crops and livestock.

In this regard, Tapia Fonseca insisted on the responsibility of local government, agricultural and other managers and officials.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening agricultural production in Cuba, especially in rural areas such as Mayarí, which has the investment of the Water Transfer Project.

The deputy prime minister pledged to work together with local authorities and producers to seek solutions to these problems and promote the development of the agricultural sector in Mayarí and throughout Holguín province.

Tapia Fonseca insisted on the importance of promoting the active participation of producers in decision making and in the implementation of policies and programs that directly affect their activities.

Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca’s visit to Mayarí was another opportunity to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the government and the region’s agricultural producers.

Key issues for the development of the sector were discussed and commitments and concrete actions were established to improve the living conditions of the producers and promote the economic growth of the municipality.
