Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, urged today in Holguín to eliminate inefficiencies and contribute to the saving of resources, during the conclusions of a governmental visit to the province of Holguín.
The President addressed the complexity of the current situation in Cuba due to the worsening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States and the inclusion of the Caribbean island in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
He also referred to the importance of food production, the fight against crime and the exploitation of local potentials, taking into account the rigorousness analyses, the elaboration of plans consistent with the state mandate of the agencies and institutions and the diversification of these fronts.
Díaz-Canel emphasized the need to increase food supply at good prices and quality, which would quality as sound; but to so it is necessary to focus production plans on this purpose, promoting self-sufficiency at local level.
He emphasized that this problem must be analyzed efficiently because, in the global context, there has been an increase of prices of foodstuffs in the last few years, mainly grains such as beans and wheat.
Díaz-Canel also pointed out the relevance of maintaining the measures for energy saving, including the transportation of the basic food basket and various crops thru railway, which comprises ferrobuses, what will allow a greater availability of fuel for electricity generation.
He also reflected on the execution of laws and decrees, according to the characteristics of the population in the municipalitiess, where the necessary inputs must be produced to satisfy the needs, as well as to demand the fulfillment of the commitments with the inflow of foreign currency and to generalize the positive experiences.
Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuba’s Prime Minister, emphasized on speeding up the search for rapid solutions to the people’s needs, by increasing food production in vegetable gardens, orchards and plots, and the use of territorial contribution in the solution of social problems.
He advocated for the rescue of fishing and the search for efficient alternatives to broaden offers and services, to reduce the importation of food and the indicators of theft and slaughter of livestock, with a high incidence in the province.
During the meeting, other issues such as crime in agriculture, infant mortality, teenage pregnancy, assisted reproduction programs, general education training, the application of renewable energy sources and the elimination of dirt floors were tackled.
As part of the tour, more than 200 economic objectives were visited and thet shared with more than six thousand students, workers and vulnerable population groups, in addition to verifying the measures taken to improve to improve access to services and local self-sufficiency.
During the governmental visit, the head of state was accompanied by the Cuban Vice-President, Salvador Valdés, and deputy prime ministers Ramiro Valdés Menendez, Inés María Chapman, Alejandro Gil Fernandez, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, and Jorge Luis Perdomo, among other ministers, officials and local authorities.
These meetings, which are held periodically in the Cuban provinces aim at assessing the progress of the main economic and social programs in each territory, and are part of a systematic working style to facilitate the interrelation with local government representatives.
