The Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), agglutinating organization of the young artistic vanguard of Cuba, celebrates this October 18 its 37th anniversary, in the middle of the preparations for its Fourth Congress, which will take place in Havana the first days of November and where the province of Holguin will be represented by 7 delegates of different artistic expressions and 4 guests.
The local branch of the AHS stands out today as one of the widest in the country in number of members and annual events, experience it has accumulated since August 13, 1987.

Currently, its presence covers four municipalities in Holguin, in addition to the capital city: Calixto García, Báguanos, Banes and Gibara, territorial cells in which the associates themselves maintain a stable and varied cultural program.

In 1994, facing a deep economic crisis but with the rebellious spirit related to the youth, the Romerías de Mayo was born from the heart of the AHS, with the purpose of turning Holguin into “world capital of young art”. This would be a multicultural festival that would attract the best Cuban and foreign creators and artists, with the leadership of the tireless journalist and cultural promoter Alexis Triana, then, president of the organization in the province.
They say that that first time was memorable, with delegations from a dozen countries and concerts by Grupo Síntesis and singer-songwriter Carlos Varela, as well as rock and troubadour discharges performed at the nascent Gabinete Caligari, on the rooftop of the Provincial Center of Fine Arts, a space that would become a refuge for the members of the AHS.
To the Romerías would be added other events such as the Trova and Poetry Encounter “Del verso y de la miel” and the Trova Award “El árbol que silba y canta”, in Báguanos; the HG Metal Rock Festival, the electronic music festival Stéreo G in Caletones beach, the “Teatro Joven” and the Celestino Short Story Award, which is annually summoned by Ediciones La Luz, the literary seal of the AHS in Holguín.
This publishing house came into being on May 7, 1997, when a group of troubadours and poets gathered in the last waiting room of the Frank País International Airport to present what would be its first title: “Bufón de Dios”, by the now multi-awarded writer and publisher José Luis Serrano.
La Luz was recognized in 2023 as the best publishing house in the country, an award granted by the Cuban Book Institute as a stimulus to a team that takes on innovative projects that include not only the production of printed books, but also ebooks, audiobooks and audiovisuals, in addition to its annual campaigns to promote books and reading for digital platforms.
