Holguín holds Provincial Scientific Events of University Libraries

As part of the activities for the Cuban Culture Day — October 20 — is taking place the first Provincial Scientific Events of University Libraries of the province of Holguín.

This on-line call from October the second to the 27, that is hoisted by the Provincial Center of Information of Medical Sciences and the Class of Information Sciences on Health Dr. Mirtha Gertrudis Santiesteban, has registered more than 220 professionals on information, so much from all Cuba, as well as Angola, Argentina and México.

MSc. Armando Salvador Escobar Rosabal, director of this center, said that the event includes 56 works published on different themes points at spreading the results of research on Information Sciences in the university libraries of the territory and to create spaces to promote the collaboration between the university libraries, information centers and academic institutions of the province and the country.

In the event they will be targeting different issues like intellectual property and copyright, promotion of reading, digital reading, the use technologies for management of information and knowledge, information competencies, library extension, metrics of information and organization of the information and knowledge, among other fields.

the first Provincial Scientific Events of University Libraries of the province of Holguín is sponsored by the University of Holguín, the Holguin branch of the Cuban Society of Information Sciences (SOCICT for its Spanish acronym), the Cuban Society of Librarians and the University of Medical Sciences of the province.

In such a sense, the Provincial Center of Information of Medical Sciences has become a leading place in the management of knowledge and scientific information un the field.

Since its creation in 1972, the center has responded to the pressing need of safeguarding scientific knowledge and management of scientific information at the service of Biomedics in Cuba.

Before then, in the former Oriente province (today five: Las Tunas, Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo) there only five libraries locate in some hospitals, but since then on, much has been done for the field, including the opening of 61 medical libraries.
