Holguin Visual Arts Salon gives awards

With the awarding of the Electa Arenal Huerta distinction to artist Roy Gonzalez Escobar, took place the awarding of the 30th Provincial Salon of Visual Arts in Holguin, the main exhibition contest of that artistic manifestation in the territory.

The event handed out the awards of the contest “Calendar 30. Do you remember…?”, where the winner was Christian Escalona Herrera with the work “Paralelismo”, from the series “Condición”.

Yuricel Moreno Zaldívar, director of the institution that hosted the event, said that the curatorial team of this edition was committed to activating memory springs that appeal to the affective imaginary of artists and audiences to reflect on local art and present authors, aesthetics and encourage criticism.

Among the collateral recognitions, Jose Emilio Leyva’s “Naturaleza muerta” (Still Life) was awarded by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, and Cristian Escalona’s “Condicion” (Condition) by the Caguayo Foundation.

Meanwhile, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods honored Vladimir Sanchez Perez for his series of works “Yugo y entropía” (Yoke and Entropy), and the Hermanos Saiz Association awarded its prize to Roger Remon.

With the participation of around 40 artists, the Salon, which concluded this Sunday, included a contest of citizen participation with objects allegorical to the 80s.

The Provincial Visual Arts Salon, founded in 1984, offers a space for this artistic expression with the purpose of making aesthetic proposals and diverse artistic interests visible and providing spaces for the promotion, dissemination and encouragement of creation.
