Checking the ongoing works aimed at restoring production in Godinez farm, in the municipality of Banes, was the main reason of the visit by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez – member of the Central Committee of the Party and first secretary of the Provincial Committee in Holguin, which part of the actions to safeguard the strategic program of Food Security and Sovereignty.
The top Party authority toured the village of Godinez and the cultivation areas, accompanied by Edgar Garcés Pupo, delegate of Agriculture in Holguín, and other government authorities in Banes.
The idea is to profit from Godínez’s fertile and first class soil; which expands across over 200 hectares, toiled by 28 producers so far. When the investment process is completed, three center pivot machines, 10 reelers and localized or drip irrigation machines will be installed in an area of 38.4 hectares.
Godinez that is located 18 kilometers away Banes, is linked to the the municipal head town by poor roads; another important things is that it has its closest source of electricity next to the water pipes, which is located at a distance of eight kilometers, so a capital investment is urgently needed for the exploitation of the agricultural region.

Regarding the work of the Tony Alomá Credit and Service Cooperative in the town of Godínez, producer Yudimir Martínez Fernández commented: “Our main crops are onions, bananas and tomatoes; we are currently starting to prepare the land for the cold season. Our yields could improve if we had water for irrigation, electrification and better access roads to increase our work force.
The people from Godínez have access to a community video room, a school and an annexed coastal settlement with 42 houses, which was also visited by Santiesteban Velázquez.
It is a strategic objective of our province to rescue this eminently agro-productive region of Banes. The fulfillment of the investment and implementation of this project, together with other similar ones, is a priority task to supply the table of the people of Holguín.
