Holguin: Innovations maintain water supply systems

The Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources in Holguin promotes science and technological innovation with the objective of maintaining the vitality of the water supply systems, one of the essential conditions to improve the quality of life of the population.

These strategies are focused on the recovery of water pumps, which have been in operation for several years and whose main components have high costs in the international market, Juan Mario Hechavarría Hernández, the sector’s delegate, told the ACN.

He specified that imported materials are currently being replaced in the water supply systems by domestic ones, one of the alternatives to mitigate the negative effects of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba.

He pointed out that work is also being carried out on the installation of solar panels to extend the provision of water services in rural zones and areas of difficult access, besides contributing to saving power.

At the same time, said the executive, investments are being made to explore new sources for water supply, reduce leaks and increase the number of users of the aqueduct and sewerage networks, even in the midst of a complex situation that extends the cycles in municipalities such as Mayarí, Urbano Noris, Banes and the provincial capital city.

In Holguín, work is also being carried out to replace networks, reduce flooding areas and water piping, among the priorities of the sector in the territory, the third most densely populated in Cuba.
