The Holguin Baseball League will have a new structure, if finally approved, to open its doors in the 2023 season, whose 46th edition should start next September 23rd.
This structure is focused into two qualifying zones, East and West, with two groups of four teams each one.
Group 1 of the East Zone includes the teams from Moa, Sagua de Tánamo, Frank País and Mayarí, and Group 2 includes the representatives of Báguanos, Cueto, Banes and Antilla.
Group 3, West Zone, is made up of the teams from Rafael Freyre, Gibara, the defending champion Holguín, and the U-23 squad.
The teams to contend in Group 4 are Urbano Noris, Cacocum, Calixto García and the U-18 squad.
In the first stage, at group level, 24 games will be played, with a double program on Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting at 10:00 a.m. and in seven innings.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at the zone level. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals and will play against each other in a best-of-two three-way playoff.
The winners of the quarterfinals will play the semifinals in a three-two series, while the final will be a best-of-three five-team playoff.
The event stipulates that the U-18 team will always play as a home club on its home field at Pedro Díaz Coello sports school and the same will happen with the U-23 team, which will have its permanent field of action on field # 2 of the Mayor General Calixto García stadium.
At the conclusion of the Provincial Series of the Holguin Baseball League, a draft team will be chosen, in which a higher renewal is foreseen, sight the 63rd National Series scheduled to begin in March 2024.
