Works in Mayari to improve water supply

The installation of a new pump in El Cocal water supply system, in Mayari, Holguin province, stands out among the actions to improve the aqueduct services in that municipality, hit by breakdowns and deterioration of the equipment.

With a capacity of 30 liters per second, this device will optimize the operation of the system and will contribute to greater stability in water supply, according to journalist Emilio Rodríguez Pupo, from Radio Mayarí.

These actions are in addition to the cleaning of wells and the connection of pipes and equipment in settlements such as Guatemala, in order to respond to the demands of the inhabitants of these communities.

In the municipalities of Gibara, Calixto García and Urbano Noris, investment programs are also being undertaken for the drilling of new wells, the replacement of several kilometers of networks, the elimination of leaks and the supply of water to agricultural areas, priorities within these strategies to improve water supply.

Simultaneously, a program to eliminate flood zones is being carried out, which includes the localities of Cacocum, Banes and the provincial capital city, and the installation of pumps with solar panels in several municipalities of this northeastern territory, the third most densely populated in Cuba.

In Holguín, which has more than 779,000 customers linked to aqueduct and sewage systems – representing 76 percent of its population-, works such as the East-West Water Diversion Project and the Levisa dam, which boost agriculture in rural localities, are also being promoted.
