The Casitas Infantiles (Children Care Centers) are a positive experience that are multiplying in the province of Holguin as an alternative of educational attention to the Early Childhood in the institutions.
The Children Care Centers are one of the main demands of the working mothers of the health sector emanated as part of the Program for the Advancement of Women. This is why this sector is currently working on the identification of premises for the construction of children’s huts.
In this regard, Dr. Nancy Tamayo Rodríguez, President of the Gender Committee of the Provincial Health Directorate explained: “Today we are in the middle of the search for premises to build children’s houses, since these are the main demand of women in the health sector.
Evidence that this program is progressing is that we already have our first little house, opened in the provincial capital city, located on Morales Lemus Street between Frexes and Aguilera, which belongs to the medical university, a pilot institution in making its own little house.
Likewise, the opening of a joint house with education in Báguanos is being projected and another one is being planned for the opening of the Gibara hospital and of the Municipal Directorate in its new structure. As for the municipality of Holguin, work is being done in the identification of some premises proposed for children’s houses, especially for the provincial hospitals.

There are more than five casitas in projection that depend on the structural part and the economic insurance. However, as far as possible, it is planned to open little houses in all the municipalities because it is the first need of the women of the sector.
According to the specialist, who is also a first degree specialist in General Comprehensive Medicine, we have been part of the temporary provincial group of the PAM since it started two years ago. This program is implemented in the DPS where a gender committee was formed and the strategy for its development was taken to a board of directors, which was extended to all the municipal directors and directors of provincial units. The sector currently has gender committees in all municipalities and in the five provincial units.
A web page called Mujeres de la salud (Women of Health) was also created. It was launched with the curriculum vitae of Dr. Pura Avilés Cruz, a distinguished doctor of Cuban medicine and pride of the territory, and since then, life stories of nurses and other outstanding professionals have been published. Thus, this program represents an opportunity for women.
