President Miguel Díaz-Canel paid tribute at Freedom Park, in South Africa, to the more than two thousand Cuban internationalists who gave their lives for the liberation of Africa.
After the tribute to the Cuban internationalists, an act of solidarity with Cuba took place with the participation of some 800 people, among them, friends of the Revolution, collaborators and Cuban residents.
“In the name of the fallen for the freedom and sovereignty of Africa, South Africa and Cuba, for peace and harmony let us fight for our friendship to become indestructible and for future generations of South Africans and Cubans to be proud of the bonds we bequeathed them,” the Cuban president declared at the exchange to honor Cuban internationalists.
During the meeting, several South African organizations expressed their support for the Caribbean nation and admiration for the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara (1928-1967) and Army General Raul Castro Ruz.
Those present denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and the inclusion of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
On this day, Díaz-Canel held a meeting with leaders of the tripartite alliance of the government, formed by the African National Congress, the Communist Party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions, to whom he ratified his gratitude for the support to Cuba.
Accompanying the head of state on his tour of Africa were Bruno Rodríguez, Minister of Foreign Affairs; José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health; Emilio Lozada García, head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, and other officials.
The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) highlighted in his message upon arriving at Johannsburg that Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz described Mandela as a brilliant and extraordinary leader, a symbol of freedom for Africa and the world.
He also recalled the feelings of brotherhood and solidarity that inspire the relations between South Africa and Cuba.
