International Course on Natural and Traditional Medicine in Holguin

Supported by the different levels of medical attention, the International Course of Natural and Traditional Medicine led by the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin concluded this Saturday. Thus ended several weeks of academic exchange with four students from the European Foundation of Chinese Medicine.

According to Dr. Mayelin Cruz Batista, head of the Natural and Traditional Medicine Chair at that University, “in their farewell speech, the students acknowledged the high academic and scientific level of the faculty that accompanied them. They also alluded to the integration of natural therapies in the Cuban health system and how the teaching and care process was developed from the components that make up the teaching pyramid”.

Every year this course takes place between February and August, thanks to an international agreement with the European Foundation of Chinese Medicine that dates back to 2011. In general, three venues are used for its development, the reference center of the specialty in the territory, which is the Lucía Íñiguez Landín clinical-surgical hospital, and the Máximo Gómez Báez and Pedro del Toro polyclinics.

The main purpose of this training action is to put into practice the therapeutic modalities of MNT and consolidate the knowledge acquired at the School of Chinese Medicine, based in the Spanish cities of Madrid and Barcelona.

In this way, the exchange of experiences between both schools is enhanced, an opportunity for students to experience first-hand the daily care of patients and thus consolidate practical skills.

For the faculty, which has higher teaching categories, being first and second degree specialists in Natural and Traditional Medicine, it also means an opportunity for professional improvement, who revalidate the excellence achieved by the specialty in the external evaluation process.
