
The double Olympic medalist from Holguín, Leuris Pupo, heads the Cuban delegation participating in the 53rd World Shooting Championship in Baku 2023, in Azerbaijan, where he will be accompanied by the current Pan American and Central Caribbean champion, Jorge Félix Álvarez, in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol.
Last year, Cuba was present at the world event, which was Leuris’ debut at that level.
A total of seven Cubans will take part in the World Championship, which is a qualifier for next year’s Olympic Games.
Also present in the competition are the riflemen Dianelis Perez and Lisbet Hernandez, and the air and sport pistol specialists Laina Perez, Sheyla Gonzalez and Jorge Grau.
The Cuban delegation is also made up of the head of the delegation, Arnaldo Rodriguez, and the coaches, Meinardo Torres, Dariel Suarez and Yoelisi Lois, Valdes said.
A total of 1,239 athletes from 101 countries will take part in the event, during which 55 award ceremonies will be held in Olympic and non-Olympic categories and 48 licenses will be granted for the Summer Olympics in Paris.
The 53rd World Shooting Championship will be held in Baku 2023 from August 14 to 31, 2023 under the organization of the International Shooting Federation and the Azerbaijan Shooting Sport Federation.
