CMKO, radio footprint in Holguín

Holguin’s CMKO radio station is one of the longest-lived radio stations in Cuba. This August 1st it celebrated 87 years on the air with the challenge of continuing the broadcasting of programs in which prevails the creative and responsible combination of entertaining, educating and informing, and preserving the Cuban identity, each time with higher levels of audiences from the current communicational demands.

CMKO radio station began its transmissions in 1936 under the ownership of Manuel Angulo Farrán, an outstanding revolutionary from Holguín and member of the 26th of July Movement who used microphones as an instrument of struggle against the oppression suffered by Cuba during the Neocolonial Republic. For his revolutionary ideal he was assassinated in 1957; and in recognition of his legacy after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution this radio station has been honorably named Radio Angulo since January 6, 1959.

Its communication system includes more than 70 varied and interactive radio formats (musical, drama, information, orientation and history) that aim to satisfy with quality and ingenuity, immediacy and veracity the information and entertainment needs of the different audiences; also strengthened with digital platforms www.radioangulo.cu and the management of social networks, based on the technological availability and without neglecting the conventional audience of CMKO radio station.

As an important instrument for the transmission of culture and formation of values at the service of the community, Radio Angulo station is a means of communication par excellence in the province distinguished with the Axe of Holguin, the Replica of the Machete of Máximo Gómez and more than once with the condition of National Vanguard. It has hosted national radio festivals three times and in the last 10 years it has been among the four best radio stations in the country in its category.

CMKO radio station is a reference for its programs, the professionalism and talent of its directors, and as the renowned radio broadcaster César Hidalgo Torres rightly states, “it is a station very close to the birth of radio broadcasting in Cuba -which in 2022 celebrated 100 years- with one of the most distinguished histories, it was the second one that the Cuban Revolution had in its hands after Radio Rebelde”.

More than eight decades of experience in the transmission of local, national and world events endorse the reputation of its reliability and popular recognition.
