The act of inauguration of the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, as well as the constitution of the Provincial Council of People’s Power, took place this Sunday in the eastern province of Holguín, as established by the Electoral Law.

In the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez, a sacred place of the country, which keeps the mortal remains of the General of the Three Wars, the ceremony took place with the presence of Rafael Santiesteban Pozo, member of the Central Committee, of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba and president of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP); Inés María Chapman Waugh, member of the Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, together with Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), in Holguín.
On the occasion, Caridad Ramos Sánchez, president of the Provincial Electoral Council, announced the results of the elections on May 28, attended by 98.33 percent of the People’s Power delegates; with 99.35 percent of the valid ballots. Thus, Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, with 98.94 percent of the vote, and Yunia Pérez Hernández, with 94.71 percent, were elected to the position of Governor.
For his part, Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, highlighted to those present the commitment of the Provincial Council of Popular Power with the people of Holguín in this new stage of institutionalization of the Cuban State.

“The first thought is addressed to our undefeated Commander in Chief Fidel, whose ideas accompany and will always accompany the actions of each revolutionary, to convey a message of commitment and gratitude, I make his words my own, when he expressed on February 23, 2013 at the constitution of the National Assembly of Popular Power and I quote: We do not fight for glory or honors; We fight for ideas that we consider fair, to which, as heirs to a long list of examples, millions of Cubans have consecrated their youth and their lives,” the governor pointed out.

The act was propitious to recognize the work of Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, outgoing Governor, who received from the hands of the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, an acknowledgment on behalf of the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz and the gratitude of the Party and the people of Holguín for their dedication of 21 years of work in Popular Power.

In the central words, the maximum representative of the PCC in the province, urged to make a special effort to consolidate the functioning of the municipal assemblies and popular councils, to provide the population with superior quality products and services, showing in their work daily order, discipline and demand.
“To the new Governor, the Lieutenant Governor and all those who are part of the new Governing Council, this must be the spirit that guides them in each task they face, they have the opportunity to write new pages of love and combat for the country for which they We wish you many successes, we express to you that the Party will always share the fight together with you”, assured Santiesteban Velázquez.

The ceremony did not lack the homage of the people of Holguin to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz for his 92nd birthday, which came from the talent of the singer-songwriter Nadiel Mejías with the piano accompaniment of the maestro Orestes Saavedra.
