There are those who think that it is easy to be a father who fulfills his social and family duties, but there are men who have been called by the people to fulfill missions that demand great personal sacrifices.
Armelio Borges Romero was a man of that lineage, responsible and consecrated, who first fulfilled military tasks and later dedicated himself to political work for many years. Armelio was leader of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Báguanos where he is remembered today for his legacy, for being the father of this people for whom he worked with honesty and offered his best effort and dedication.
An exemplary father, he joined his life to Irma Ponce de León Parra, with whom he had two children. To his satisfaction, his daughter Irma Borges Ponce de León became an excellent graduate in Microbiology who today serves in the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Holguín, and Armelio Borges Ponce de León, his son, dedicated to the defense of the homeland, chose a military career and is a lieutenant colonel in the Revolutionary Armed Forces.
Armelio Borges Romero directed as first secretary the Municipal Committee of the PCC in Báguanos in the 70's of the last century. There he acted as a guide for the people.
He was very professional, demanding, organized and closely linked with the masses. If he called for voluntary work in sugarcane cutting, the first two mochas were for Borges and Lahera, his faithful and strange friend, also a well-known political leader in Holguín. Borges fulfilled Martí's preaching: "To do is the best way to say".
On June 13, Armelio Borges Romero ceased to exist physically, but before his departure for eternity he asked the family that his ashes be scattered at the entrance to the town of Báguanos. His children fulfilled their wish. A multitude of people paid him a heartfelt tribute.
The people will remember him as a combatant, a militant, an example, a leader and a guide who knew how to conquer respect and admiration for his duty.
On Father's Day, the eternal memory for Borges.
