In the times of the COVID-19, the Business Group of Commerce in the province of Holguin evaluates its resources in order to reorganize them and to guarantee continuity of essential services that impact on the health and nutritional well-being of the population.
As part of the comprehensive actions being implemented in the face of the current complex epidemiological situation caused by the SARS CoV-2 virus, the services provided by the 726 state-run gastronomic facilities in the territory with limited opening hours until 8 p.m. were readjusted.
All the restaurants (120) are complying with the latest measures taken by the National Directorate of Domestic Trade regarding the suspension of their culinary offerings in salons with an option to sell only at home and to take away, in order to contribute to greater protection of the population from the so-called social isolation.
This modality also benefits the almost six thousand people protected by the Family Care System in the territory, who receive daily at home the food prepared by the 114 gastronomic establishments in charge of this social function. This effort helps maintain social isolation in the face of COVID-19 and adds to the national effort to contain this pandemic at the lowest possible human cost.
The Gastronomy sector also guarantees free food services to all patients, health professionals and support staff of the coronavirus isolation centres in the province, which has already infected 57 Holguineros up to 13 April.
Another measure implemented by the Ministry of Commerce in view of the current health contingency and the low availability of cleaning resources is the controlled sale of a hygiene module (soaps, liquid detergent, toothpaste) that is currently marketed, depending on the national production volumes of each product, in nine of Holguín's 12 municipalities. To facilitate the disinfection of SARS Cov-2 virus, more than 286,000 liters of chlorine have been distributed to date throughout the province at 72 points of sale, close to homes to avoid crowding.
For the current month, the Standardized Family Basket is assured with all its products. It supports the supply of eggs, flour and sugar to self-employed workers who continue to exercise to contribute to the feeding of the people.
