Mayari is the second municipality of the Cuban province of Holguin with the largest coverage of Internet thru wifi platform, only exceeded by the provincial capital city. The local branch of the Cuban Telephone and Communication Company (ETECSA) reports that so far today six places are ready to reach at the towns populated over 10 thousand people.
The settlements to profit from wifi are Nicaro, Levisa, Felton, Guatemala and Guaro, in addition to the municipal headtown, Mayari, where services are given since the 19th of May, 2016.
Although the Nauta network is not working yet in the access to be opened, ETECSA experts in the municipality say it just a matter of time.
Internet Travelling to the Highlands
As part of the country’s strategy for the informatization of Cuban society thru the use of new technologies, Mayari ETECSA is working to install a wireless system in the mountain settlement of Arroyo Seco, which profits from the state run program called Plan Turquino.
This is a technological challenge because the settlement is located in between mountains, more than 30 kilometers from the municipal headtown.
Such a thing would become a present for the Plan Turquino, which will turn 30 years of being created this June the second. / Emilio Rodriguez Pupo.
