History teaching promoted in Holguin province

The days “Reading History“, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, promote in the province of Holguin the teaching of this basic subject, one of the strategies of the educational system in the country.

Through activities that concluded this Wednesday, such as lectures, book presentations, talks and visits to museums, knowledge about the local traditions of this territory, the third most densely populated in Cuba, is promoted.

The broad program, organized by the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC for its Spanish acronym), has among its objectives to promote values in adolescents and young people and to promote the texts published by La Mezquita publishing label, said Hiram Perez Concepcion, president of the Holguin branch of the UNHIC.

He pointed out that along these days they also boosted thematic exhibitions at the Provincial Museum of History La Periquera, where aboriginal utensils, belongings of the heroes and martyrs of the wars for the independence of Cuba from 1968 to 1898, among other objects of great value and antiquity are exhibited.

He stressed that the plan of activities includes primary schools to the north and south of the city of Holguin, through circles of interest and open doors related to research on this branch.

“Reading history” also has among its venues the Alex Urquiola Provincial Library and the Calixto Garcia Park, the main square of the city.

Holguin has a wide network of museums, institutions and historical sites, which develop throughout the year actions aimed at the preservation of traditions, linked to the new generations.
