In Holguín it is a priority to develop the potential offered by Natural and Traditional Medicine (MNT), a principle that, in addition to contributing to improving the state of health of the population of the territory, is consolidated as an alternative to which to turn to in the face of the lack or low coverage of some industrial drugs.
Regarding the production of these products, Mariannis Fernández Suárez, head of the pharmaceutical services section of the Provincial Health Directorate, explains that the Holguín family is well protected by this sector as it has a basic table of medicines made up of 95 lines, of which 69 products including syrups, shampoos, melitos and creams are produced in its own territory in around twenty units and three local production centres, the latter located in Moa, Banes and Holguín. This guarantees an annual production plan of more than seven million 100 thousand units.
Although considerable efforts are being made not to stop the production of green medicine drugs, as they are also known, issues such as difficulties with the import of virgin bottles affect the stability of these products. For this reason, the Chief of the Pharmaceutical Services Section of the Provincial Health Directorate states that packaging depends on the recovery of the bottles, either through the agreements that have been established with the different organizations or through the collection of raw materials.
MNT's specialty also has a large number of trained specialists and a network of high quality services in both primary and secondary care. Nevertheless, solutions must continue to be sought to achieve greater stability of these products and for the population to always resort to this medical area to find a solution, beyond the objective difficulties that may undermine compliance with production plans.
