The Provincial Electromedicine Centre of Holguín already has a metrology laboratory, a facility equipped with standards for the calibration of medical equipment.
With the opening of this laboratory, the necessary conditions have been created for the Provincial Electromedicine Center to assume tasks that until now had been performed by the Territorial Normalization Office (OTN) of Holguín, informed Luis Enrique Almaguer Velasco, director of this agency belonging to the Ministry of Public Health.
The laboratory's equipment includes an ultrasonic power meter; a pressure calibrator for sphygmomanometers for adults and neonates; a sound level meter to measure noise level; a laser power meter; and a luxmeter, which is used to measure light in the premises, the latter two being used in the specialty of ophthalmology.
According to the information offered by Ana Ferrer Delá, the laboratory's main specialist, other measurement equipment assigned still remains in the National Company of Medical Supplies (Ensume), since the supplies that arrive in the country must be calibrated by the National Office of Standardization.
