Santiago de Cuba celebrates 70th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada

Santiago de Cuba celebrated this Wednesday the 70th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada with Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, an event that started at 5:00 a.m., time of the attack then.

Today the city of Santiago de Cuba broke its stillness; the poem “La mañana de la Santa Ana” (The morning of Santa Ana) made the skin crawl, resounding among the bullet traces of the Moncada, in this open-air stage.

In the presidency also present Esteban Lazo Hernández – President  of the Assembly President of the People’s Power – and Commandant of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez.

Seven decades later, Santiago de Cuba has celebrated the The National Rebellion Day, in a ceremony where video mapping remembered the events of July 26th, 1953, which showed one by one, the faces of the martyrs and héroes of the the Moncada.

On July 26, the first secretary of the Communist Party and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, also led the commemoration, which began with a cultural presentation, in which the emblematic conga santiaguera with its drums and Chinese bugle mimicked those festivities in the city.

Actors Claudia Alvariño and Denys Ramos declaimed the poem Era la mañana de la Santa Ana, by Jesús Orta Ruiz, the Indio Naborí, which has accompanied for decades this remembrance that is dear to Cubans.
