“Self-portrait of giant” in blue and and black in the paintbrush of Holguin painter Jorge Luis Cudina Martínez, opens from the center of the Gallery Fausto Cristo, in the city of Holguín, the exhibition “Honrar honrra”, dedicated to the 171st anniversary of the birth of José Martí, – January 28, 1853.

The exhibition curated by art critic Danilo Lopez Garces, has been open to Cuban and foreign audiences at the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) in the city of Holguin.
In a visual tour the works take us to the Naiff art of Rolando Salvador Pavón, in three paintings in oil on canvas with the own coloring of his costumbristas works, popular in “Art I am among the arts”, “With the poor on Earth” and “To honor Maestro” in a triptych that is located in curatorial concept to the right of the hall.
Aníbal de la Torre, in the technique with manufactured paper, enters the universe of Marti’s work with “Gratitude, like certain flowers, does not grow in the heights and better flourishes in the good soil of the humble”.
From other tendencies and pictorial signatures in “Honrar honra” there are portraits of Martí and an acrylic on canvas collage in “Martí infinitud y fuerza” by Maestro Lauro Echavarría Osorio.
Dayamí Pupo, chose the technique of on cardboard to propose a Martí of strength and unique sensibility in “Duermo sobre roca” (I sleep on rock).
Pupo also shares creations of the children’s project “El arca de no sé” with drawings of teenagers and children in “Martí sobre la infancia” (Martí on childhood).
Malena María Cruz Barea presents two works, one of them “Los zapaticos de rosa” in mixed installation technique.
Other artists participating in the exhibition are José Expósito Marrero, Iosvani García Pérez, Óscar García González, Arsénico Pérez, Alexander Fizt Mulet, and Rodolfo A Marrero Tamayo.
After 20 years of initiating every January a visual journey with honor”, the colonial mansion where the Fausto Cristo Gallery is located, is witness of a collective exhibition with the aesthetics and personal seal of twenty artists with twenty-seven works in sculptures and paintings in prevalence.
Researcher Eliel Gomez, president of the Jose Marti Cultural Society in Holguin, in his poetic words to the catalog, from the devotion of a faithful Martí, defines the exhibition as an exhibition of faith, brief and loving, which refers us to the apostolic word of the Hero of Dos Rios when he said “In painting as in love, the greatest and singular merit is fidelity”.
