A packed ‘Plaza 4 de Abril’ during the opening day. Photo: Ahora.cu.(July 29) A dream came to be true in the Cuban city of Holguin when in barely four months and twenty five days, a local construction company finished the long waited ‘Plaza 4 de Abril’ recreation complex, which was opened at times of July 26 celebration here.

Jorge Cuevas Ramos, the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, that inaugurated the plaza located on Cajigal avenue, toured the place which he praised for the quality and beauty of the facility finished five months prior to schedule.

The Plaza that is made up of an organic whole is influenced by the eclecticism that marks Caribbean architecture, said architect Rene Santiesteban, who led the team of designers.

The complex is made up of several units, among them Restaurant 465 whose bar shows a gallery of pictures with images of emblematic places in Holguin – also nicknamed the Cuban City of the Parks.

An inner small plaza, designed by artist Miguel Alberto Osorio, and where metallic structures were used, represents the Earth which is held by the fingers of several hands all together, thus the creator’s clear ecological message.

In the Plaza 4 de Abril there are other places as some snack bars that take the shape of a flower, reason to name them “Los Petalos” (The Petals).

The plaza also has being endowed with the technical devices to welcome the most diverse artistic and cultural projects, and to give the place one more touch a huge pigeon loft rises at the complex’s entrance.

The planners also built paths for physically impaired people who along with all clients can go to the place to ask for Cuban food, ice creams, preserves, sweets, sandwiches and from other gastronomy services.

The local government invested around a million 230 thousand pesos and more than 110 thousand Cuban convertible pesos.

Nearby the Plaza, other state facilities and 52 houses underwent repair work by the construction work carried out there.

During the inauguration the best workers were acknowledged.
