Manuel Zelaya, president of Honduras, was given the floor at the UN to address the General Assembly today to expose the coupists that ousted him from power by using exaggerated force, that took him out of the country after kidnapping him and later repressing the people that took to the streets to support their democratically elected head of state.

Zelaya thanked the support given by many heads of state from the entire Latin American region and the Caribbean, but also the European Union, and other world organizations as the UN General Assembly.

He also said that in Honduras the hegemonic oligarchy is accusing him of some crime which he explained to the audience.

When Zelaya went in office he ordered a minimum wage rise, to at least, give food to the large number of poor people living in the country today.

He added that the rise would never be used for transport, house rent, health or education, but for food alone, and that was described as a crime.

But urging rich people to register servants in life insurance was considered as a crime, in a country like Honduras with so many women working as domestics.

Zelaya also criticized news manipulation in his country, that is why, he defended the right of freedom of speech.

And his will of asking the people to decide (as in a poll) the placing a fourth ballot box for the people to decide so was also described as a crime.

Zelaya added that there are some articles contained in the country’s Constitution considered unchangeable, which forbids the people to have a voice, and that is what he would like to have for his people before leaving power: VOICE.
