(April 02) The Beby Urbino Nantes distinction was granted to plastic artist and cultural promoter, Jorge Hidalgo Pimentel, at times of the celebration in Holguin of the Cuban Book Day and the 50 years of the opening Cuba’s National Printing. For granting such recognition the jury took into account Hidalgo’s noted career.
Among the many badges received by this noted painter, designer and engraver are the Distinction for the Cuban Culture and the Holguin Axe, top symbol of the homonymous province.
Hidalgo that was one of the promoters of the opening of the Holguin Culture Week Festival is also linked to the National Literacy Campaign and the foundation of the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS) for young artistic talent.
He has taken his art to Cuban galleries and to other nations as Mexico, Canada and several Caribbean nations.
As the president of the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) in this eastern province, Hidalgo promotes local talent and has achieved that the avant-garde movement reaches all the cultural events held in Holguin, also nicknamed the City of the Parks, as the International Book Fair, the Romerias de Mayo Festival and the Iberian-American Culture Festival.
Some five other noted local promoters were also nominated the year’s Beby Urbino, distinction granted by the Provincial Book and Literature Center, the librarian Maria Molinet, poet Orestes Gonzalez Garayalde, both from Baguano municipality and writers Edilberto Rodriguez and Agustin Serrano, from Moa and Gibara, respectively.
