For its dietetic properties and several recipes to eat it, corn has become one of the largest grown crops in the municipality of Calixto Garcia, in the Cuban province of Holguin.

One can see many people growing corn all around there; that is the case of Roberto Carlos Santiesteban Cordova, who lives in Las Barias, a rural settlement not far from Buenaventura – the municipal headtown.

Santiesteban Cordova planted the corn profiting from the rains of the summer season. He was very pleased to see his crop until a corncob called his attention.

maiz Enio Perez f Radio JuvenilIt was bigger than usual, that is why he removed the leaves and bingo! His eyes met with twin corncobs.

The twin corncobs became the talk all around. People went on finding out an explanation: the fertile soil, the contact of the male and female pollen during polarization.... Whatever caused the corncobs grow in such a way keep attracting people, and continue on wondering about the other tricks nature will bring to the Cuban municipality of Calixto Garcia. / By Artemio Leyva Aguilera - Radio Juvenil / Translated by Radio Angulo.
