Cuban Rolando Vazquez Guerrero never thought that one of the chickens hatched in the backyard of his house would attract so many people, not along his family members.
A Huge Crop in the Cuban Province of Holguin
The Rare Flowers of the Mottled Spurge in Holguin
The point is that this man residing over Buenaventura, the headtown of the municipality of Calixto Gatcia, in Holguin province, saw that one of the chickens was born with an unusual anomaly, if one could call it like that. The legs of one of his chicken look like those of ducks.
Florinda Vazquez, one of Rolando's sisters made a mischievous comment that made everybody laughed, "Uh! Something odd happened here between Rolando's chicken and the duck of his neighbor."
The truth is that this is just the result of a congenital malformation.
The family's joy grows because the rare chicken is healthy and is under the care of Lorena Perez Leyva – Rolando's 7 year old girl.
Lorena, with the aid of her mother – Mairelis – is feeding the God's lesser creature, and is proud to show it to friends and neighbors coming over to see the queer bird.
It is indeed, one of the many tricks genetics plays to animals and human beings as well.
This is, without a doubt, a curiosity for town dwellers that have rarely seen an animal with one of its parts resembling those of others' of the animal kingdom. / By Antonio Guerra Carralero - Radio Juvenil / Translated by Radio Angulo.
