With only six dates for the closing of the qualifying stage, the Cuban baseball championship now enters in its penultimate subseries with several teams ready to earn a ticket towards the next round.
To date, the only team that ensured its presence among the top eight Cuban squads is the current monarch Ciego de Avila despite its three games versus Pinar del Río were suspended because of rain.
With balance of 27 wins and just nine losses, the Ciego de Avila Tigers will try to extend t heir lead in the rankings when facing Matanzas (21-17), which appears seventh.
In contrast, I ndustriales (25-14), Pinar del Río (21-12) and Holguin (22-17) could use the lower level of demand of their respective rivals to accumulate victories and take almost decisive steps in their qualifying aspirations when facing Camaguey (11-28), Artemisa (10-26) and Santiago de Cuba (15-24), in that order.
Villa Clara (19-20) will rival the battered side of Mayabeque (7-31) feeding thus its limited chances of qualifying, while the current runner-up Isla de la Juventud (19-20) will go to a very demanding match against Las Tunas (23-13) that appears third in the standings.
Finally, the surprising team of Cienfuegos (19-17) will fiercely defend its eighth spot by facing away Sancti Spiritus (18-21), and Granma (24-14) will seek to seal its ticket to the second phase when clashing with Guantanamo (20-18), a side that is close to the qualifying area.
