Cuban GM Dominguez wins in European Chess Club Cup
Cuban Leinier Dominguez defeated Jonas Lamper supporting thus the 5-1 result with which the Russian team of Mednyi Vsadnik beat German side Hamburger Schachklub Von 1830 in the European Chess Club Cup.

During the third round of the tournament based in Skopje, Macedonia, Leinier (2732 Elo points) defended the second board of his squad and won with white pieces over a clearly inferior opponent (2461).

With this victory the best player in Latin America reached 1.5 points in two outings, as he was not used during the second round when his team beat 4-2 Lsg Leiden from Netherland.

Besides Leinier, the other winners of his club were Peter Svidler (2727), Maxim Rodshtein (2673) and Ivan Saric (2678), while Nikita Vitugov (2725) and Ildar Khairullin (2652) achieved draws.

The Mednyi Vsadnik has won all its three matches and totals six units, although it escorts by tiebreaker the Azeri Socar, the Czech Ave Novy Bor and Moldovan Alkaloid.

The first of them includes in its roster stars such as Bulgarian Veselin Topalov (2813), Dutch Anish Giri ( 2798) and American Fabiano Caruana (2796), making it one of the most powerful sides.

Polish Radoslaw Wojtaszek (2734) and veteran Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk (2726) are the leaders of Ave Novy Bor and Alkaloid, respectively.

The contest involves 50 teams and was convened to seven rounds by the Swiss system, with six games per match.

Today, Leinier and his teammates will face Russian Siberia, fifth with six units, while the leader Socar will clash with the Italian Obiettivo Risarcimento Padova, which appears sixth with the same amount of points.
