The nicknamed Puppies Holguin just made a feat never achieved before, sweeping the called Pirates of Isla de la Juventud in three straight matches (5 – 4 on Tuesday), (2 – 1 on Wednesday) and (10 – 2 on Friday); the current runner-up of the Cuban Baseball League tried hard as it is traditionally used to doing, but had to face Holguin team – playing local – that exceeded and now keeps moving forward a berth for the second stage of the 2015 series.

Ernesto Hernandez that opened grabbed the win; southpaw Luis Angel Gomez closed.

The winning spell by the nicknamed Puppies Holguin now gets extended to eight straight victories.

Third baseman Yuionr Paumier Oliva, who is in the Cuba team's reserve for the Premier Super 12, homered in the eighth inning.

This is Holguin's fifth sweep in the 2015 season, and ratifies its sixth place in the standing, therefore, it is almost launched into the second stage.

Ernesto Hernandez that won his fourth match in the season (4 - 4) barely allowed 6 hits, an earned run, struck 3 rivals and walked two men in 7.1 innings. Luis Angel Gomez did the rest and just allowed a run.

Holguin produced 11 hits - including Paumier's fourth homerun in season – who went 2 – 5, and drove in three runs.

Oscar Lopez 2 - 3, with a double and two run driven in, also stood out in the match.

Holguin made an error, and Isla de la Juventud, two.

This fifth sweep gave Holguin 21 victories (15 defeats); remains in the sixth place – one and a half match away from Matanzas (7th); and 2.5 points away from Guantanamo that jumped into the eighth standing.

For now, Sancti Spiritus and Isla de la Juventud go next, sharing the ninth and tenth places – which are 3 matches away from the called Puppies.

Starting tomorrow, Holguin will face Las Tunas (home club), which goes fourth in the season and is 1.5 ahead of Holguin.

Once they play off Las Tunas they will be playing at the "Guillermon Moncada" to play vs Santiago de Cuba, and will return to the Calixto Garcia stadium to close the first stage vs Granma.

Now that the 2015 season has barely nine matches to go three is the magical number for Holguin's qualification.
