A silver medal by Roberto Almenares and a fifth place for Olga Mansferrer was the contribution of the Holguin athletes to the Cuban team that won the individual event of the Pan-American Judo Championship, in both sexes, held in San José, Costa Rica.

Almenares, of the 60 kilograms, reached the final of his division in which he lost by wazari with the Ecuadorian Lenin Preciado, while Mansferrer fell in the discussion of the bronze in the 70 kilos before his compatriot Onix Cortés, for three shidos (disqualification ).

Via fecebook, Roberto Almenares confirmed the importance of this result for his options to attend the Central American and Caribbean Games this year, as well as the quality of the rivals he faced, although he emphasized the American Adonis García, whom he defeated in semifinals

The representation of Cuba reached five gold medals, three of silver, and four of bronze, to overcome Canada (3-1-3), Brazil (2-3-2), Ecuador (2-0-1), Argentina (1-2-0) and Colombia (1-0-1), who occupied the positions from the second to the sixth respectively.

The first places for the Cuban delegation were obtained by women, Maylín del Toro (63 kg), Kaliema Antomarchi (78), and Idalis Ortiz (+78). Among the men, Osniel Solís (66) and Iván Felipe Silva (90), the victimizer of his teammate Asley González, won their category.
