Holguin Finally Wins in Cuban Baseball League

The team that represents the northeastern province of Holguin finally grabbed its first win in the second stage of the 54th season of the Cuban Baseball League, when winning over current runner-up Matanzas team (8 – 6), a match played at the "Victoria de Giron" stadium; thus breaking with it a spell of 4 straight defeats.

 

Holguin produced 15 hits off Matanzas thorwers (4 doubles), starter Norge Luis Ruiz won his fifth match in the season (5-3), and Yunier Suarez saved his third game.

 

Yeison Pacheco produced 3 hits, but Yordan Batista and Lazaro Bent drove in 2 runs apiece.

 

Holguin made on errors for the first time in the second stage second stage; previously it made 6 errors in 4 matches, an unusual thing in the team.

 

In the start of the second stage, Holguin was swept by Ciego de Avila (including a 11-0 match – mercy rule), and then lost to Matanzas the first match (1-0) on Thursday.

 

So far Holguin ranks sixth-seventh with 24 wins and 26 defeats.
