Francisco Gonzalez Garrido who everybody calls Franco in Guardalavaca beach resort is the secretary general of the Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) at the Atlantico hotel, and is the chief of security at that tourist complex.
Such a thing is a high responsibility for Franco, but he will soon face a much more complex duty as a delegate to the Seventh PCC Congress, next 16 thru 19 of April.
As a delegate to the PCC Congress he said, "Picking on me is not an individual merit, but an acknowledgement to the achievements we've reached in the hotel, so much in tourism services as on the Party work."
Franco added that they "have boosted a political and ideological work for the last five years, which commit the members of the PCC and the communist youths, but we never neglect links with the staffers of the hotel and the nearby community. We're fully devoted to meeting our goals: top services to make them as highly competitive as possible."
Attending the PCC Congress "makes me feel proud and committed," he said and added, "I've been preparing myself to represent my peers in the event, to play an active role in the discussions and contribute with my opinion in the agreements to be passed on."
"This is going to be a historic Congress for several reasons, you know, the update of the country's economic model, the new situation the country is living today with the resume of diplomatic relations with the US, and the integration process in Latin America and the increasing links with Europe. All that will matter at the Seventh PCC Congress," Franco stressed.
Franco works today in tourism, and as a resident of Guardalavaca town he has participated in the parades for May Day and other activities in the community, and often goes to Los Angeles - his hometown - where he gives a hand in land toiling.
"I'm like any other person, there's nothing special in me. I began working as an agricultural worker in 1994. In 1997 I went to Matanzas to back up the sugar harvest in that province which was hit by Lili hurricane...," he said.
"Later, I began working as a steward in this hotel. I'm a common folk in the neighborhood. My wife works in agriculture as a land leaser, in Los Angeles, a place that stands out as one of the largest bean producers in the municipality of Banes, and in Holguin province as well. We have leased 5 hectares which we exploit and get good outcomes in bean production," Franco said.
Francisco Gonzalez Garrido is good at telling stories that he has lived or that has been told, which he recreates as a good oral teller that he is. He is not alone kind and easy going, but also can talk to any person on many issues.
He is very responsible at work, for that reason he was chosen to attend the Seventh Congress Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), an honor and a huge responsibility, he asserts. / Radio Banes / Translated by Radio Angulo.
