The journalism Jose Marti made went with the time he lived in. It was marked by a superior information expression for the future, adaptable and consequently with the profession assignment.

He understood the value of journalism and how it can touch, persuade and transform society. Many of his articles in the newspaper Patria expressed those ideas.

Juan Marinello, recognized Cuban writer who studied the Apostle's work expressed once "It is impossible to deny that his journalism was different. The big writer, the big revolutionary and the big artist is crushing - the field where he get his highest level."

Marti pointed that the press was not mean to just inform in a "hastily and frivolous way" about the events, but ''bend, explain, teach, guide, work is the press mission´´ His reports are not only a journalist's testimonies in agreement with his principles, also are essentials interpretations of real occurrences.

He started with the Ideological Journalism (1850-1870), in the Scholar newspaper El Siboney (The Siboney), writing manually and in El Diablo Cojuelo where he exposed his independence purposes. He was a predecessor of the opinion journalism that is recognizable in his satiric texts about the printing freedom and others that reflect those days situation.

The Informative Journalism (1870-1920), was also used by Marti in every essay about quotidian topics in Spain, México, Guatemala, Venezuela, Honduras and Santo Domingo and the United States of America.

But his most significant field was the Interpretative Journalism (1920-1945-1973), very advanced for his time in that style employment, that is remarkable in his soulful reportage El Presidio Politico en Cuba (The Political Penitentiary in Cuba) where he showed, analyzed and added valuables judgments about the Cuban context, all that turned those texts in a convincing accusation against Spain's behavior on Cuba.

Without any purpose, Jose Marti traveled by the different classic moments of the journalism but he was also a great propagandist. Since 1892 he gave priority to the propagandistic work and it was one of his most remarkable merits as revolutionary journalist. Once he affirmed "There are campaigns that should be done in a tireless way, every chance is right to make it, guide by the objective of convince clearly to its receivers."

Under Marti's leading, Patria newspaper became in an example of revolutionary journalism. But it was only another step in a bigger mission: the necessary war preparation, to fight against the Spanish colonialism and the imminent imperialist danger from de United States.

The first edition of Patria was published on March 14 of 1892, one month before of the creation of the Cuban Revolutionary Party. Since the beginning the journal was very important in the fight's preparation, as Marti said "that is Patria in the press. It is a soldier." / By Alberto Santiesteban Leyva – Radio Banes / Translated by Radio Angulo.
