Water Saving, an Alternative for Holguin vs Drought
cacoyuguin punto muerto f mvaldesThe drought now hitting Holguin and several other Cuban provinces takes the country to a really complicated situation, where measures have been taken to lessen its havocs; in the above mentioned northeastern jurisdiction some 54 thousand people are directly suffering its disturbing effects, mostly for the unsteady behavior of the rains and the high temperatures reported these last months.

The too poor average rain in Holguin and all Cuba as well is causing dams and reservoirs drop down the amount of water storage there, which in this case remains too down the level needed.

Such a thing leads to think some people are not fully aware of the situation, as one can see water wasted at some homes, nevertheless they watch many people pass by with containers going for the precious liquid.

Another manifestation of indifference comes with the people responsible of stopping water leaking from the city's waternets, as seen in many allotments of the city of Holguin.

The Weather Institute informed that the current drought is severely hitting 13 out of the 14 municipalities of Holguin province, with Antilla as the only one living a favorable situation.

Holguin is concerned because 45 water sources – including dams, reservoirs and the aquifer – are partially hit by water scarcity after the poor rainy season, while other 19 sources are completely running out of water; thus, water waste is a crime.

In the midst of such a serious situation, the officers in charge of running the hydraulic resources should take the lead and punish the guilty ones, from the private or state sectors; there is no other choice.
