With a gala at Comandante Eddy Suñol Theater in the city of parks, the results of the Cultural Success Award in 2023, given annually by the Holguin public and the Circle of Culture Journalists in the province, were announced.
The evening, under the general direction of Víctor Osorio, was an exquisite synthesis of the ten nominees and had its high point in the announcement by Yakelín Tapia, provincial director of Culture, of the Cultural Press Award to the shows “Cinema” and “Fiesta Sinfónica”, performed by the Holguín Symphony Orchestra together with students of José María Ochoa Professional School of Music, directed by maestro Oreste Saavedra.
The first event was an extraordinary concert that gathered on the main stage of the Suñol Theater magicians, cosplayers, oral narrators and lyrical artists, who together with the orchestra revisited soundtracks of iconic films.
Meanwhile, Fiesta Sinfónica, in its fifth edition, transcended as a great show on the natural stage of San José Park with a cast of 122 artists, including soloists Emilia Pupo, Nadiel Mejías and Rafael Hernández, the Feeling Voices quartet, storyteller Fermín López and the Poiesis Project, made up of students of the dance specialty of the “Raúl Gómez García” Professional School of Art directed by teacher Vianki González.
Award for Cultural Achievement in Holguin
The Audience Award, on the other hand, went to the Colmenita “Rayitos de Lucero” of the municipality of Moa, for the community impact of the provincial tour as a celebration of its 15 years.
The Children’s Theater Company “Rayitos de Lucero”, known as Colmenita de Moa, was founded on April 14, 2008 with the mission of having an impact on the integral formation of boys and girls of eastern Holguin, becoming a transmitter of the most authentic values and traditions of our island.
Its director, José Turro Navarro, summons every year from this honeycomb of culture and identity to the National Children’s Encounter “Rayitos de Lucero”, where the little beehives from other regions of the country converge in a space of fraternal learning.
Award for Cultural Success in Holguín
The Cultural Success Award was instituted in 2012 by initiative of the specialized press to promote and recognize the artistic creation in Holguin, one of the strongest cultural places in Cuba.
