Cuba braces community actions to fight tuberculosis, joining the March 24 World Day against the disease. The World Health Organization reported that one-third of the world population is infected with tuberculosis, which left near 10 million children orphan in 2009.

Epidemiology and hygiene expert Barbara Gascon told Juventud Rebelde that nationwide preventive programs have impeded the infection from spreading wild in Cuba, compared to other countries, by diagnosing the disease in an early stage through medical exams and sample screening, and the exchange among specialists to facilitate prevention and maintaining hygiene.

Today, the disease is object of debates in communities and workplaces, complemented by the distribution of brochures.

On March 24, Villa Clara province will host the main event on the World Day against Tuberculosis, which marks the day when Robert Koch discovered the causes of the disease in 1881. / Source - PL
