Dedicated to Caribbean culture, the 21st edition of the fair will be attended by renowned intellectuals and artists from the region, like Sir Hilary Beckles, from Barbados; Suzy Castor, from Haiti, and Norman Girvan, from Jamaica.
Over 200 guests from 40 countries, including Mexican writer Sergio Pitol (Cervantes Prize winner in 2005), Miguel Bonasso (Argentina) and Brazilian teologician Frei Betto, have confirmed participation in this traditional literary event that will be held at the colonial fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña, as its main venue.
Over 400 titles including 46 about Caribbean culture and traditions, will be sold at the fair, which will take place in Havana from February 9 to 19.
Preceding the official inaguration, the Cuba Pavilion in Havana, opened on Wednesday as one of 12 places where book lovers can buy their favorite stories.
An intense and comprehensive academic program will take place during the fair: panels, roundtable discussions, lectures and meetings such as those dedicated to Cuban National Hero José Martí and Argentinean-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara.
The Book Fair will also extend throughout the country to conclude the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba on March 4.
