Ronel won the award for his book of poems “Por qué tiembla la gelatina" and the story "Casa embrujada" about life in a rural Cuban home.
The story belongs to the unpublished book entitled "Relatos de ninguna parte," which gathers “traditions, legends and myths of the Caribbean island. It takes place in an inland home inhabited by a lady who lives alone surrounded by many animals that make noises and look like ghosts to her neighbors.
González said that humor is a constant in his books. "This is another aspect that I have been looking at for some time, after dealing with several rather difficult issues such as divorce and alcoholism in previous works. Now, I'm trying to go elsewhere and make readers laugh.”
Ronel explained that he gave the title "Por que tiembla la gelatina" to his book of poems, based on a Latin American riddle with a simple answer: because it will be eaten. The book is filled with humor like this, all the characters have or are objects of sympathetic stories that make you laugh.”
