The Cuban National Seismological Service reported an earthquake in the central region of the country without reports of casualties or damages.

The quake of 2.5 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred at 03:42 local time (08:42 GMT) on Saturday at coordinates 23.03 North latitude and 79.98 West longitude, nearly 15 kilometers northwest of Santa Clara city.

According to Juventud Rebelde newspaper the tremor, with a depth of 2.6 km, was felt in the town of Quemado de Güines, more than 186 miles east of Havana.

In Cuba fifty earthquakes of medium and low intensity are annually reported, mainly in the East.
