The celebrations in Holguin for May Day, International Workers’ Day, have the pride generated by the achievement of the condition of National Vanguard Collective by 26 entities of the eastern territory.
Collectives belonging to 11 unions out of the 15 existing in the province achieved the high merit granted by the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC).
The Construction sector stands out with the highest number of Vanguard centers, among which the UEB Gibara of the Médano Company, the Trasvase Engineering Services Company, the Workers’ Services Company (Garbo), the UEB Brigada Constructora Integral de Conam, as well as the Empresa de Constructora de Obras de Ingeniería No.16, of the municipality of Mayarí were elected.
It is followed by the Transportation union with four outstanding units, such as the state-owned Meca V, the UEB Catering, Commerce and Airport Gastronomy, the “Frank País” International Airport and the UEB “Rafael Freyre” of Transferraz.

The unions of Tourism and Food Industry and Fishing have, each one, three Vanguard collectives, while Industry, Culture, Energy and Mines and Public Administration have two, while the sectors of Commerce, Agriculture and Sugar Industry have one representative each.
The Gran Muthu Almirante and Brisas Guardalavaca hotels, Servisa Holguín, the Inejiro Asanuma Spinning Mill, the Polygraphic factory, Artex Holguín, the Branch of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods, Asertec, UBPC “28 de enero” and the Industrial Products Commercialization and Services Company “La Universal” are part of the list of those honored for their economic and union performance during 2023.
Also worthy of the union banner are the Moa Nickel S.A. Mining Equipment Maintenance and Repair Workshop, the Nickel Research Center (CEDINIQ), the UEB Food Producer and Distributor “Calixto García”, Alimatic Oriente, Habana Club Internacional, the Provincial Legal Services Enterprise and the UEB Casa se Alojamiento Expo-Holguín.
Until April 30, the Holguin collectives will be receiving their awards, obtained with great effort in the midst of a hostile international economic context.
