Attention to the Elderly Improved in Holguin, Cuba
As part of the social support for the elderly, 23 of the 27 institutions dedicated to the care of senior people in Holguin were improved as part of a program for the maintenance and repair of nursing homes and old people's homes in the province.

This Cuban eastern province has seven nursing homes and 19 old people's homes with about 1, 500 capacities, of which 821 are dedicated to the day care modality with wide acceptance among families.

The project also encourages the creation of "Grandparents Circles" (elderly social clubs), of which there are 1, 235 in the territory, whose members perform physical exercises and develop cultural, recreational and educational activities.

In order to provide required attention to this group of the population, basic health teams and members of the working groups in these institutions were trained on issues of aging. Currently, the province has 189 master's degrees in Satisfactory Longevity and a large group of workers who have received courses on geriatrics at the surgical hospital Lucia Iñiguez Landin and the Vladimir Ilich Lenin of this city. / By Lourdes Pichs Rodriguez - Ahora.
