The Cuban province of Holguin achieves the goal of having community centers all along its coastal line with the recent opening of the unit Doctora Rosa Elena Simeon Negrin, in the municipality of Mayari.
Environmental Education Boosted in Cuban Province of Holguin
The community centers look for boosting the so needed environmental education as one of the many actions to go and face the effects of climate change.
Those centers have been enhancing environmental education and culture in the community, in the settlements by the seaside in the seven coastal municipalities of Holguin province.
The road that started in the municipality of Moa for now concludes in Mayari, but the idea is spreading efforts to all other municipalities from this northeastern Cuban province.
"Today's world leads us look forward a safer tomorrow, and go for sustainable development," said MSc. Reinier Gonzalez, a specialist of the municipal delegation of the country's Minister of Science, Technology and Environment.
"The municipality of Mayari isn't alien to environmental problems, as it's today living a complex process in order to achieve industrial and social development," he said.
For that reason it is necessary to boost environmental culture, to contribute to sustainable development and watch law and order to meet the country's regulation, what would avoid worsen the situation or lessen problems already identified in the Provincial Environmental Strategy.
"The goal is boosting environmental culture as we go for the economic and social development, but strongly defending the Earth and life on it; that's why, the need of making the people get aware of such a need," Gonzalez said.
He informed that several local companies, research centers and institutions are developing programs aimed at planting on the people the need of protecting the environment.
The Doctora Rosa Elena Simeon Negrin community center will be in charge of channeling the tasks and actions to go for environment care there, and mostly the work with the younger generations.
That center is supported by over 30 local institutions like the municipal branches of Education, Agriculture and the Center for Experiments on Sugar Cane in the town of Guaro.
