The north-eastern Cuban municipality of Banes worked during the current 2015 in the exploitation of renewable sources to produce clean energy. The coastal jurisdiction in the province of Holguin has potentials in the field; however, there is a poor awareness on its strengths.

But the goal of keep on reducing the use of fossil fuels there took them to widen the investments. So far today, there are more than 20 win mills, 165 solar panels and 364 solar heaters.

They are also working on the exploitation of biomass in 14 kitchens and four ovens in facilities of tourism, public health and education.

The study of the potentials for the use of renewable sources to produce clean energy began in Banes in 2010. The most widely employed ones are the wind, the sun, and biogas.

Banes will continue to exploit renewable sources in the years ahead, but the wind will take the lead. / Radio Banes / Translated by Radio Angulo.
