Joy filled the heart of fourth grader Brenda Maria Palmero Perez when she was given the award "Amigos de las FAR," granted by the Cuban Revolutionary Arm Forces, to children who show their love and appreciation to the country's defence bodies though different artistic expressions.
In the plaza of her school, Brenda Maria was presented with the award by Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio, member of the political board of the Cuban Revolutionary Arm Forces (FAR).
The award of the yearly national competition is a replica of the Granma, the yacht that brought to Cuba the expedition members led by Fidel Castro, who landed on December the second, 1956 to free the nation from the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista.
Visibly moved, Brenda Maria squeezed the replica to her chest and meant how proud she was about receiving an acknowledgment she did not expect.
The girl dedicated the prize to her parents for their full and unconditional support, to the Culture House in Tacajo, her hometown, as well as the FAR combatants "for defending the conquests of the (Cuban) Revolution and make it possible that children feel free and safe in the beloved Homeland."
In the ceremony held at Felipe Neri Guerrero semi-boarding school of the municipality of Baguano, in Holguin province, student Maiquel Ramirez, who studies at the Rigoberto Sillero special school in Antilla town, received an acknowledgment certificate.
The "Amigos de las FAR" contest calls on children and teens to take thru arts their approach on the Cuban Revolutionary Arm Forces, which is a way to plant love for the country's defenders of freedom and sovereignty and boost as well love for the arts.
During the day, children, teachers and parents attending the ceremony packed around Colonel Cardoso Villavicencio to take an autograph and take a picture with the man that resisted imprisonment in Somalia.
Colonel Cardoso Villavicencio said he feels deeply pleased to see so many happy little faces studying to be better persons in the future.
He also said being there is a great chance in life because they are rewarding the best works and their authors right there in their places, not as before they went to Havana to be awarded; the best acknowledgment is doing it in front of their school mates, concluded saying the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio.
