When a good teacher passes through our lives, one of those who not only teaches you to read or to calculate, but also teaches you to be a better person, it is difficult for us to forget him, because his mark is always present. This is the case of Gladis González Utria, a woman who, it could be said, was born for the teaching profession.
Most of his life was spent in the district of Las Calabazas, in this municipality of Calixteño. That is why when her students from so many generations knew she would be recognized, they did not miss this special place, witness of so many special moments in the community, such as the Luis Saíz Montes de Oca school.
Early in the morning the teacher arrived, accompanied, as has become traditional, by her husband. Everyone was waiting for her. As in every special moment, Keyla Roche Quevedo delighted the audience with her performance.
Her students of so many years thanked all the teachings transmitted during all this time, the example as a woman, educator, mother, in short, as a person.
This is how the morning went by in which this teacher of the heart received the Honrar Honra distinction, presented by the José Martí Cultural Society to people and institutions with an outstanding career in society and in the promotion of José Martí's thought.
At the award ceremony, Xiomara Garzón, vice-president of the board of directors of the Society in the province, acknowledged the work of Gladis, the work carried out from a rural school and the systematicity with which it has done it, results that are currently appreciated.
