This wednesday representatives and believers from various denominations and Christian communities in the province of Holguín joined to accompany family and friends of Manuel David Aguilar and María Salomé Sánchez, one of the ten pastoral married couples of the Church of the Nazarene in the territory, victims of the plane crash tragedy that took place in Cuba on May 18.
Dr. Carlos Sáenz, director of the Mesoamerican region of the Church of the Nazarene, thanked everyone, brothers of faith or not, who have supported the families of the victims in these days of suffering. He also assured that since the news of the accident was known, several churches opened their doors "to pray and accompany anyone who has lost a beloved one".
"In the aftermath of the disaster, eight children and two teenagers, all between seven and 15 years of age, lost their parents, as well as other children of higher ages,” said Héctor Ortiz, presbyter of the Nazarene Church in the province." But these children are not alone, their parents and love have multiplied. They have an entire people here, religious or not, who pray for them and take care of them, it has always been that way in Cuba and it will continue to be so."
Ernesto Bazán, pastor of the Brotherhood of Baptist Churches in Holguín and coordinator of the Program of Evangelization and Ecumenics of the Council of Churches of Cuba expressed: "the best tribute to the victims has been with silence, prayer. Nobody was summoned; the religious community has joined because we feel the pain of others as our own pain. These are days of sadness but also of unity: the Church, the people, the State. "
Representatives and devotees of the Evangelical Church, the First National Church of God and the Spiritualists Federation of Holguín were present at the funeral.
The first Secretary of the Party in the province, Luis Antonio Torres Iríbar and Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, among other party and government leaders, attended the funeral and gave their condolences to relatives of the victims.
