Holguin pioneers rescue peasant traditions

The rescue of the most distinctive cultural traditions and customs of the Cuban peasantry is the premise that defends every year the event "Guajirito soy and manual skills", which will be held in this eastern province from Monday 23 to April 28.

Graciella Fernández, methodologist of the provincial education directorate and one of the coordinators of the meeting, explained to the Cuban News Agency that on this occasion the headquarters of the competition will be the pioneer camp "Isla de los niños" in Cayo Saetía.

He pointed out that up to this picturesque landscape of northeastern geography will reach some 150 pioneers of primary and secondary basic education, mainly from rural localities of the territory.

The event is divided into two sessions, he explained, peasant traditions in which children compete from fourth to sixth grade demonstrating their knowledge as pioneers explorers on tracks and signs, shooting, saddling animals and making typical Cuban dishes and other typical of life in campaign.

He indicated that one of the days will be dedicated to the realization of the expoferia in which fruits, vegetables and meats will be commercialized, the same natural that cooked within a typical recipe of their places of residence and to buy them the interested ones will have to answer questions about the pioneer organization.

Parallel to this event the manual skills contest will be held, in this case, starring students of basic secondary, who will show their creative ability in the manufacture of various textile items, wood, metal, clay, glass, still life among others.

The objects created in the installation itself will be exposed on the last day and will also be used to reward the rest of the competitions, said Hernández.

The event that takes place every year is also sponsored by the José Martí Pioneers Organization by the National Association of Small Farmers, who, in addition to securing the tools that competitors will use, their technicians are responsible for training these peasant skills in them throughout year.
